About the New Markets Tax Credit Program

The New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program is a federal program established in 2000 to stimulate investment and economic growth in low-income communities. NMTC-funded projects commonly support real estate acquisition, rehabilitation, new construction, or the expansion of local businesses, channeling capital into economically distressed census tracts. The program helps attract investment capital and provides small businesses, nonprofits and developers access to better financing rates and terms than typically available in traditional lending programs.
